Scott Anthony Maness On Thursday, January 9, 2003 at approximately 9:45pm Florence County 911 Operations Manager Scott Anthony Maness was in route to his home in Coward, SC, when he was fatally injured in a head on collision. The driver of the other vehicle was convicted of Felony DUI. Scott Maness, 41, was born in Bethesda Md., he was a son of Carl and Yvonne Cassidy Maness. He was a Graduate of Francis Marion University. Scott was a past member of the Marlboro Rescue Squad, a former employee with the Horry County EMS, past Director of the Marlboro County Emergency Services, and former Lieutenant of the Communications Division of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. He was serving as Operations Manager of Central Dispatch / E-911, Florence County Emergency Management Department at the time of his death. Scott came to work in Florence in 1995 soon after the implementation of E-911 and consolidated county wide Central Dispatch. Scott played a key role in the organization and development of Central Dispatch as we know it today. Scott was a true team member and led the team by setting the example of strong character and leadership. Scott was a member of various professional organizations and served in leaderships positions of many of them. These organizations include NENA (the National Emergency Number Association), and S.C. Chapter Executive Board Secretary, APCO (the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials), and S.C. Chapter member, and SCLGCA, (S.C. Local Governments Communications Association member). In January 2000 Scott was awarded the E.N.P. (Emergency Number Professional) National Certification by NENA. Scott was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are: his parents, of Bennettsville, a brother, Pat Maness (Jan) of Rock Hill, a sister, Teresa Maness Clark (Chuck), of Pageland, nieces, Elizabeth Turner and Whitney Maness, and a special friend, Dawn Richards. |
