   The COBRA team is trained and equipped to respond to terrorists WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) acts anywhere within the state. The team is composed of volunteers from area emergency management, law enforcement, fire and emergency medical agencies. In addition to responding to WMD events the team provides emergency agencies, countywide, with trained personnel and the necessary equipment to respond to chemical spills and hazardous material accidents within the county.

    To quickly transport equipment to an emergency scene, the approximately $750,000 of COBRA equipment has been loaded on specially designed trucks and trailers, pre-positioned in selected areas of the county.

COBRA 1 (HAZMAT Technician Level Response)

Cobra Truck

A Ford F750 truck with 24’ cargo box equipped with such equipment as radios and computers; various software programs and reference library, fully encapsulated personal protective equipment, self contained breathing apparatus; gas meters and various chemical detectors and monitoring equipment; and non-sparking hand tools.


COBRA 2 (HAZMAT Operations Level Response)

HAZMAT OPS

A 12’ enclosed trailer containing such items as pumps; sandbags; damming and diking equipment; booms and absorbent materials; over pack drums; pipe and drum repair kits; portable lights; generator; traffic cones; personal protective equipment; eye wash station; hoses; fire retardant foam; and assorted tools.


COBRA 3 (HAZMAT Operations Level Response)

A 12’ enclosed trailer equipped identically as COBRA 2 but located in a different area of the county.


COBRA 4 (Radiological Response)

HAZMAT OPS

A 12’ enclosed trailer containing such items as handheld and portal radiological detection monitors; self-reading dosimeters; thermo-luminescent dosimeters, personal protective equipment; and barrier material.

COBRA 5 (EMS Trailer)

HAZMAT OPS

A 12’ enclosed trailer that serves as the COBRA team mobile classroom. It is equipped with samples of all COBRA team equipment as well as props to simulate accidents and rescue manikin to simulate victims. The trailer allows us to take training resources to various departments within the county for their use.


COBRA 6 (Mass Decontamination Response)

HAZMAT OPS

A 12’ enclosed trailer containing such items as multi-line decontamination tents; water heaters; contaminated clothing storage; brushes; soap; towels; redress supplies; pumps and hoses, wastewater storage equipment; and litter conveyers.   


COBRA 7 (Ranger ATV)

HAZMAT OPS

A 1 1/2 ton open trailer used to transport a 4x4, two seat, Ranger ATV. The Ranger is equipped with dump cargo bed and winch and is used to quickly move personnel and equipment at off road emergency scenes. The transport trailer can be pulled by the Ranger to move large loads.
