Emergency Alerts

Residents need multiple ways to receive critical, life-safety information during an emergency. Florence County offers multiple avenues for receiving that information.

IPAWS

Federal, state, and local public safety officials use the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) to send emergency information directly to mobile devices, local broadcast stations, and other public alerting systems. IPAWS is a modernization and integration of the nation’s alert and warning infrastructure, saving time in critical situations and protecting life and property. Only authorized alerting authorities may send emergency alerts using IPAWS.

Regroup

Regroup keeps you informed when it matters most. From severe weather and unexpected road closures to missing persons and evacuation notices, Regroup delivers critical updates you can count on. You’ll receive time-sensitive alerts right to your home, mobile, or business phone, as well as by email, text message, or through the Regroup app, so you never miss important community information.

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs)

WEAs are one component of IPAWS and can be sent by state and local public safety officials, the National Weather Service, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the President of the United States. WEAs are designed to get your attention with a unique sound and vibration, and they are no more than 360 characters in length. They are unaffected by network congestion and will not disrupt the progress of texts, calls, or data sessions. You are not charged for receiving WEAs, and there is no need to subscribe.

NOAA Weather Radio

The NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations that broadcast continuous weather information from the nearest National Weather Service office based on your physical location. It is recommended that you have a NOAA Weather Radio for your home and business. The station broadcasts official warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information 24/7 and alerts of non-weather emergencies through the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System.
